Joey Chestnut Does It Again

This afternoon, over 20,000 fans packed the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Penn., to see the sixteeth annual Wing Bowl. Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, who was the reigning champion, held onto his title by chowing down on 241 chicken wings in 30 minutes. This was 14 more than his nearest competitor Patrick Bertoletti and 36 more than third place Bill "El Wingador" Simmons.

For his gastronomic feat, Chestnut — when did he obtain the nickname "Jaws"? I swear he didn't have it for the Fourth of July Hot Dog Contest — received a Toyota Tundra, a 2008 Black 883 Sportster motorcycle, a championship ring, and, of course, all the bragging rights.

So what do you folks think, could you eat that many wings in 30 minutes? Could you even eat half the amount? Also, can you believe the number of folks who attended? From the look of things, this place was packed!

Instead of decorating in red, blue, and white — which are the team colors for the Patriots and the Giants — at your Super Bowl party, use green and brown to evoke the colors of the field and ball. But, before you begin to decorate, make sure the TV is in a central location with plenty of comfortable seating. Next turn to the table and set up a food buffet.

Cover the table with a green Astroturf tablecloth and place a brown suede runner down the middle. Sprinkle shiny football confetti all over the suede runner. A versatile pilsner glass can be used for beer, soda, long island iced tea, or Boston punch.

Serve the nachos in individual red and white paper trays and stack brown plastic plates nearby for sandwiches and empanadas. Don't forget festive football napkins.

Give beer drinkers a football insulator so their hands don't get cold. A football clapper makes a fun favor, especially if given at the start of a party.

Soup's On: Sweet and Spicy Chili

Technically chili isn't a soup, but since it's almost Super Bowl Sunday, and chili is a one-pot meal made in a similar process as soup, I had to feature it. My dad discovered this recipe and has been raving about it for a couple of weeks now. Currently it's our favorite chili because its both sweet and spicy at the same time.

It's the week before the big game and I'm obsessing so much about the Super Bowl you'd think that I was a member of the Chicago Bear's non-existent cheerleading team. Technically the Super Bowl is not a holiday, but it's such a celebrated day that it really should be considered a holiday. I've always wondered why they (they = the people in charge, ex. the US government) don't schedule the game for a Monday instead of a Sunday and let everyone in the nation have the day off to watch the game? When I say everyone, I mean everyone - even the people who work at Safeway and McDonalds. The Super Bowl is just around the corner and although I don't follow football too closely, I love it because I get to make a bunch of football food! This year I promised my brother's friends PJ and Matt, a feast of yummy super bowl snacks to munch on during the game. I have tons of recipes, like this one for Hot Buffalo Wings from previous football parties, but I am in the mood to experiment with some new ones. That's why I need you to head off to market and look for the best super bowl snack recipes. The food needs to be filling, as it's for a big group of buff guys, and simple (nothing too gourmet or fancy for these boys, it is after all, a football game). I will be watching and cooking from their house and will be unfamiliar with the kitchen so make sure the recipes don't call for any fancy gadgets or crazy pots.
