In case you haven't noticed, I am fanatical about sandwiches, which is why I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I came across the pictures that FinnLover posted in Twinkle's Kitchen Goddess group of smørbrød: Scandinavian open-faced sandwiches.

Norwegian for "butter bread," these smørbrød sandwiches are everywhere in her current home of Bergen, Norway. "People eat them for breakfast, lunch, and at night before going to bed," she says. "I normally like to keep mine really simple and the ingredients to a minimum." This combination of red bell pepper and Snøfrisk, a spreadable goat cheese, is simply spectacular.

Savory Sight: Norwegian Fish Market

Depending on how much you like seafood, fresh-fish markets can be near paradise or unpleasantly stinky. Since I love just about any kind of ocean bounty, especially when it's fresh, I'm drooling over the photos of the Bergen, Norway, fish market that FinnLover recently posted in my Savory Sights group.

This was FinnLover's first visit to her new hometown fish market, which features live fish, high-end seafood dishes, and everything in between. According to FinnLover:

As you walk around the counters, the fishermen offer pieces of their product to taste, and everything is packed so the tourist can bring some stuff back home, like gravlax, smoked salmon, dried whale, peppered fish, caviar . . . There are also several kiosks that sell sandwiches, fish and chips, king crab legs, and warm dishes with salmon and shrimps.

Savory Sight: Beautiful Kentucky Derby Cake

Somehow, a themed cake makes the party. People will lick their lips at any delicious dessert, but the wonderfully thematic cake will be talked about afterwards.

This past weekend TeamSugar member eclaireassuch held a Kentucky Derby Party and created a fantastic cake to go along with it. She decorated a chocolate-nutella cake with intricate red roses — like the ones the winner wears — and topped that with a ring of horses.

After the tragic end where Eight Belles died, she knocked one of the horses over. She admits now, it was probably in poor taste. Yet, I still have to admire her creation. What do you guys think? Despite the dark humor, don't you want to just dive head first into that ring of roses?!

Bluesuze Had a Little Lamb

If one adorable cake wasn't enough for you today then here's another! I was hunting for cakes on TeamSugar when I came across this adorable Easter Lamb Cake by bluesuze. It's so wonderfully cute and precious. She says that her family makes an Easter Lamb Cake every year. To create her masterpiece she used the Wilton Lamb Cake Pan ($12.99) and I think hers looks even better than theirs!

Sweet Sight: Sushi Cookies

If you think this sushi looks absolutely delicious, I suggest you look again. It's actually not a savory sight, it's a sweet one! TeamSugar member treu shared these sushi-shaped cookies with us in the Savory Sights Group. These cookies were made by her sister and use rice krispies, marzipan, chocolate, gummi drops and marshmallow to portray a full sushi spread. They look so realistic, I want to host a sushi party just so I can make these for dessert!

I don't know about you guys, but I love taking pics of food. It drives my friends and family crazy, they have to wait before dinner can be served, or drinks can be consumed. However, judging from the pics I've seen, I'm not the only who loves doing so. If you like taking pics of food as much as I do, start submitting them to our Savory Sights group. In the Savory Sights group KWM posted an awesome picture of her New Year's Eve dinner. It's a shot of the buffet and everything looks YUMMY! Especially the prime rib and the potatoes (and the green beans and the salad). She even writes about the event saying that she and her friends throw a roving dinner party. Each month it's hosted by a different couple, but all of the couples supply the meal potluck style. And if you find your mouth watering and your lips smacking KWM was kind enough to post the links to the recipes for the salad and potatoes, so you can create these dishes in your kitchen. Looks like it's a great party idea that's sure to succeed every-time. Just one question, KWM, what did you guys have for dessert???

Today it was reader crispet1 who knocked me over the edge. She posted this beauty, a Raspberry and Blueberry Clafoutis with Quenelle of Orange Scented Mascarpone, in the Savory Sights group.

Clafoutis is such a great dessert, not only is it fun to say, but the way the fruit melds with the batter (which is similar to pancake batter) just makes me start drooling.

Since sight is part of the whole experience, we've decided to create a new group called Savory Sights. Here's where you can upload your picture-perfect (or not so perfect) eats! So join me and start uploading your favorite food photos. And just because it's called savory, doesn't mean it can't be sweet!
