Yesterday it was announced that bad-boy, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is apparently having an affair. The racy details reveal that the chef has been secretly sleeping with professional mistress and Having An Affair? A Handbook For The Other Woman author Sarah Symonds for the past seven years. Although he's known in the states for his foul-mouthed, angry kitchen tirades, across the pond, Ramsay's an established family man with a devoted wife and four young children. Neither Ramsay nor Symonds have commented on the allegations, but in her book, Symonds describes an affair with a high-profile, incredibly well known chef. While I found the news surprising it didn't exactly shock me. I've never really considered Ramsay to be the devoted husband type. What do you think about the possible affair? Source

A recent UK poll indicates that Gordon Ramsay Holdings is the most admired restaurant brand in Great Britain. The restaurant group of the famed chef and TV personality Gordon Ramsay topped the list of restaurant chain operators in a survey by consulting firm Allegra Strategies, beating McDonald's, which ranked number three, by two spots.

Ramsay owns 11 restaurants in the UK alone, plus three pubs, as well dining spots in New York, Los Angeles, Prague, Versailles, Dubai, and Tokyo, among others.

I must admit that I wonder how Gordon Ramsay can keep it together with so many ventures on his plate. I also have to question how the upscale dining mogul's company can be put in the same category as a fast-food chain like McDonald's. Given how many dining brands he has to manage, do you think Ramsay's reputation for excellence is well deserved?

Regis and Kelly Dress as Celebrity Chefs

For their Halloween special last Friday, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa dressed up in fourteen different costumes, four of which included celebrity chefs. Regis yelled at the audience as Gordon Ramsay while Ripa's Paula Deen munched on a butter kabob that she washed down with a glass of oil. The real Guy Fieri showed up to cook a flank steak with the "chefs." Later Kelly licked chocolate from a bowl as Nigella Lawson and Regis overused the word "Bam" pretending to be Emeril Lagasse. The funny show demonstrates that the popularity and success of celebrity chefsdom is still on the rise. Check out the clip below!

My favorite part was when Ramsay taught the chef and owners of Trobiano's how to make homemade mozzarella. I started thinking and realized I've never made cheese! How about you? Gordon Ramsay Has More Brewing With Fox

In a deal between Fox and star chef Gordon Ramsay, the chef has signed on for at least two more seasons of Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, a live cooking special, and — get this — yet another series.

Ramsay's third show will be based on his current British series Man Camp, a sort of boot camp for men, who are put through physical and intellectual challenges.

The live cooking special will encourage "young, vibrant, and tenacious" viewers to cook a meal with the chef at home. Says Fox programming executive Mike Darnell: "He's been unbelievably good to this network. He's as much a staple for us now as Simon Cowell or Hugh Laurie."

Ramsay's secret to television success? "I try hard to keep it real, and I'm someone who takes all this very, very seriously." Are you excited to hear of this new development for the sharp-tongued chef? Will you tune in to watch Ramsay's new show, which seems to be less focused on cooking?

Last night on the second episode of the new season of Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay was on a mission to turn Long Island's Handlebar around. With a chef who doesn't like to cook, an unmotivated owner, and an emotional train wreck of a wife, the restaurant was a complete disaster. I've always liked the concept of Kitchen Nightmares more than Ramsay's other television show, Hell's Kitchen. With a handful of hit shows, an international restaurant group, and 12 Michelin stars to uphold, Gordon Ramsay keeps piling more on his plate. The chef announced he will be opening a second venture in Manhattan, his US version of a laid-back, relaxed gastropub.

The casual concept, Ramsay defends, isn't due to the failing economy: "It's not because of the credit crunch or holding back. I just love that kind of alternative."

Gordon Ramsay at the London, his first stateside spot in midtown Manhattan, opened in 2006 to mixed reviews from critics, but the restaurant has proved resilient, earning two Michelin stars.

No word yet on when the café is set to open. Ramsay does have other things going on, after all: The new season of Kitchen Nightmares premieres tonight on Fox.

Last week Forbes released a list of the 10 top-earning celebrity chefs. The richest celebrity "chef" is Rachael Ray who, thanks to her four Food Network shows, daytime television show, magazine, and Dunkin' Donuts deal, makes $18 million a year. She's followed by Oscar caterer Wolfgang Puck ($16 million) and Gordon Ramsay ($7.5 million).

While owning a restaurant doesn't necessarily factor into a chef's riches (Ray owns no restaurants), it's clear that more exposure and countless endeavors amount to more money.

Puck owns 15 restaurants and has a soup line in grocery stores and a collection of knives sold on the Home Shopping Network. Ramsay has numerous restaurants and hit television shows in both the US and UK.

Although television played a huge role in the success of Ray, Puck, and Ramsay, it's interesting to note that the fourth and fifth richest chefs, Nobuyuki Matsuhisa and Alain Ducasse, have little to no television presence, but each own more than 15 restaurants worldwide. Much like the sudden rise of the metrosexual, a recently released study discusses the rapid growth of the next major male demographic: the gastrosexual. According to the Daily Mail, these men use their culinary skills to impress their friends and potential love interests.

Leading the pack of gastrosexual men are celebrity chefs, like Jamie Oliver, Danny Boome, and Gordon Ramsay, who glorify the high-stakes world of the restaurant kitchen. PurAsia, the food company that published the report, entitled "Emergence of the Gastrosexual," said in a public statement:

We found that cooking for this new generation isn't simply a matter of refuelling. For them it's an enjoyable experience and something to be relished - they cook for pleasure, praise and potential seduction.

Gordon Ramsay's Los Angeles restaurant, the London, opened last night with a star-studded dinner service. However, the cheftestants from Hell's Kitchen were nowhere in to be found. This makes me wonder if the HK prize — to be chef of the London — is a little exaggerated. Perhaps they merely get to be a line cook there? Items from the menu are far more sophisticated than the dishes made on the reality show. The menu includes:

Baked foie-gras custard, crispy duck tongue, micro greens
Monkfish with crispy chicken skin, lemon-thyme consommé
Smoked pork belly with roasted Scottish langoustine, celeriac, and apple

For some reason I can't imagine Bobby, Jen, or Corey making any of these dishes. What do you think? Does one of the HK contestants really work at the London?

Should serving non-seasonal food be outlawed? Gordon Ramsay thinks so. He recently spoke to the BBC News and told them his opinion. During the interview he said:

Chefs should be fined if they haven't got ingredients in season on their menu. I don't want to see asparagus on in the middle of December, I don't want to see strawberries from Kenya in the middle of March. I want to see it home grown.

He's so passionate about this, he's actually brought the issue to UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

However something tells me that England won't be seeing a ban anytime soon. There's big business in the food import industry, and shouldn't people have the right to choose what they want to eat? Sorry Gordon, but I disagree with you on this one. Also, do you think everything on his restaurants' menus are grown locally? The Guardian says they're not.

Run Ramsay Run!
A whole range of celebrities pushed themselves to the limit by taking part in the Flora London Marathon yesterday. The rain may have poured down, but that didn't stop Gordon Ramsay, who was running his ninth marathon and completed the 26.2 miles in 3 hours 45 minutes.

Sharon — who was affectionately called Barbie by her fellow Hell's Kitchen contestants — was this week's eliminated chef. It was a "first time in Hell's Kitchen history" moment when Ramsay kicked Sharon to the curb because she was not up for elimination. Two other girls — Jen and Christina — were on the chopping block, but since Gordon didn't believe in Sharon or her culinary skills, she was the lucky one sent home. Didn't you think last night's episode of Hell's Kitchen got off to a much better start than the first episode? The contestants had to dig through garbage, fillet, slice, and portion a whole halibut — finally something a chef really has to do, prep halibut! — and cook dinner service. On the premiere episode of Hell's Kitchen, Dominic, the stay-at-home dad from South Carolina, was sent home. I had the chance to speak with him over the phone yesterday and I learned that he does indeed know how to cook scallops and was completely fooled by Gordon's disguise.

Although it might not seem like it from the first episode — which was full of stumbles, spills, and kitchen mishaps — according to Dominic, ALL of the contestants have had experience working in a kitchen. You know Gordon Ramsay and you've already met the contestants of Hell's Kitchen Season 4, but what did you think of the first episode? I'm incredibly disappointed. Since Ramsay is searching for a chef for his own restaurant, I hoped this season would be more serious than past years.

However, it ended up being like a bad April Fools' joke. It was uncomfortable to watch and I felt bad for the contestants. Watching them slip and trip around Hell's Kitchen was like watching a parody of Top Chef on Saturday Night Live. I miss the heroic, do-good Ramsay of Kitchen Nightmares.
