Although
my birthday starts at 9 p.m. on a Saturday, I want to offer my friends snacks to nibble on throughout the night. Since the kitchen at
15 Romolo is still under construction, I'll make an assortment of easy appetizers that are best served at room temperature.

Raw fish may not be so safe after all. A man in Chicago has
sued a prominent seafood restaurant for giving him a nine-foot tapeworm. A tapeworm he says was caused by consuming raw salmon.

For my
movie club meeting, I've planned a
corn tasting menu. Each of the dishes feature corn as an ingredient. Since sweet corn is available, the dessert will be no different.

Fish on the grill is classically Summer, and this Mediterranean inspired recipe is simple and fast. The caper sauce is chock-full of flavor, so make as much of it as possible. Toss the leftover sauce over a side of green beans, corn, Summer squash, or broccoli for a colorful, well-balanced meal.

Fresh eggplant is the star in this delicious vegetarian pasta. The purple vegetable is pan-fried and seasoned with dried oregano. The sauteed eggplant acts as the base of the thick, tomato-y pasta sauce.

With a store bought pie crust, a quiche comes together in minutes. This quick quiche features crab meat, fresh herbs, and grated cheese mixed together in a warm, fluffy custard.
Once you have the technique down, you can make hundreds of quiche variations.

When planning a menu for a
pool party, select a variety of cold and hot (preferably grilled) dishes. Serve small, light bites buffet-style all day, replenishing plates as they go empty.
Offer guests a cool treat the moment they arrive in the form of watermelon wedges with lime ice.

The other day I was going on about wanting to make strawberry pie (I saw the recipe in
Gourmet's June issue) when my friend interrupted me. She pointed out that sadly, strawberry season is almost over. Determined to make the pie, I headed to my local market in hopes of finding the last of the season's berries.

Although most of a
bachelorette party in Vegas will be spent living it up in the casinos, bars, restaurants, and nightclubs, I'm hosting a small lingerie shower for Elena in my hotel room. Along with some
simple snacks, I'll serve sugar cookies.
However, these cookies won't be round like in the picture: I'm making them festive by using
pecker cookie cutters.

My
Moroccan dinner would not be complete without sweet mint tea. This hot concoction is a common commodity on the streets of the North African country. Although alcohol is not traditionally consumed in Islamic culture, at my party I'll offer guests an alcoholic variation of the tea in the form of a green-tea cocktail.
