Americans may love kicking back with beer, but times are tough. That's why an increasing number of beer drinkers are swapping their microbrews for what are called "subpremium" beers in the beverage industry.

A recent British study found that pregnant women who indulged in one or two drinks per week while expecting their sons had better behaved boys. It said:Boys born to mothers who drank lightly were 40% less likely to have conduct problems and 30% less likely to be hyperactive, even when the differences between social and economic circumstances were taken into account. They also scored more highly in vocabulary tests and were better able to identify shapes, colours, letters and numbers.

Drunk drivers are losing part of their 15 minutes of shame after a judge's ruling deemed that New York's Nassau County had been violating due process by posting the mug shots of DWI suspects on its Internet "Wall of Shame." The county began posting the mug shots of DWI arrests on Memorial Day, and has since been sued by one woman who was pictured. She said the online gallery was unconstitutional as it was posted before her trial.

MillerCoors announced yesterday that production of the malt-liquor beverage Zima has been discontinued.
The product was part of the 1990s clear-drink craze that included Crystal Pepsi and Tab Clear. Zima proclaimed to be "Zomething different" from beer, wine, or hard liquor, but in recent years, the drink — which had been repackaged and reformulated into citrus, tangerine, and pineapple citrus flavors — was outsold by competitor Smirnoff Ice.

A judge in New York City has thrown out a lawsuit alleging that "Ladies' Night" pricing at bars and nightclubs discriminates against men. The lawsuit was brought by an attorney known for his fight against gender-specific constructs like suing Columbia University for its Women's Studies department. What's organic, from northern Chile, rich, full-bodied, and listed on the McCain campaign stationery? Nope, it's not Sarah — it's Palin Syrah (no relation, of course.) The red wine carries the vintner's name and "describes a ball that was used in an ancient game played by the Mapuche, a group of people indigenous to central Chile."
