In your attempt to get organized in the New Year, perhaps I can interest you in this
birthday cake mold. Not only does it save you the time and effort of having to write "Happy Birthday John Doe," but the microwave-safe silicon mold — heatproof up to 300ºF — has a recipe embossed on the rim for a cake that's ready in a mere six minutes! Procrastinators may think it's worth the $39.50 price tag, but I wonder whether traditionalists will miss spelling out "Happy Birthday" in loopy pink icing.

Every once in a while it's nice to have a little indulgence in life. This weekend, I made a decadent chocolate-
stout cake to celebrate the start of the
new year. The addition of Guinness creates an incredibly moist cake with a delicious, bittersweet aftertaste.

Some moms have the time and patience to carefully plan out elaborate holiday desserts for upcoming parties and events, for everyone else there is the
Gingerbread Man Cakelet Pan ($20). This handy little non-stick pan creates perfect lil gingerbread man desserts in a snap. Create your own recipe, or just use the pre-made kind that comes in a box from the grocery store.

Now that we've put
Thanksgiving behind us, it's time to get excited for
Christmas! To get you in the
holiday spirit, I've put together a few pictures of your favorite classic yuletide desserts. Can you identify them?

If you're looking to wow a crowd, a decadent chocolate dessert will never disappoint. And 'round this time of year, gingerbread is the fastest way to touch the
holiday spirit. Why not combine the two and make a chocolate gingerbread cake?

Bûche de Noël
A Christmas cake native to France. Also known as a yule log, it is a filled, rolled sponge cake. To resemble a genuine yule log, the cake is then frosted on the outside with buttercream and finished with fresh berries, marzipan or meringue details, and powdered sugar to resemble snow.

Pop singer
John Mayer, a guy whose not afraid to say what he needs to say, wants everyone to get in the
holiday spirit. How should they show their seasonal cheer? By baking a cake.

If I were responsible for Thanksgiving dessert, I'm sure this is how it would turn out.
