Would You Eat This Sandwich?

While watching an episode of Diary of a Foodie on the new Gourmet website, I came across a very interesting sandwich.

The magazine's editor in chief, Ruth Reichl, was making The Max Special, a sandwich with peanut butter, mayonnaise, and pimento-stuffed olives. At first I thought, "gross!" Then I realized if Ms. Reichl is eating this sandwich, it must be pretty darn delicious. I plan on making one to see how it tastes.

What do you think? Would you eat this peanut butter, mayonnaise, and pimento-stuffed olive sandwich?

Well I voted other but it didn't record. Anyway, I'm not a mayo fan I'm a Miracle Whip girl, so could I change it up a bit? Then I'd try it.

When I was younger, and we ran out of Jelly, my Mom would make us PB and Miracle Whip sandwiches. Those were actually pretty good. I guess I would try it.

This seems a bit out there, but in the name of research I say we get the ingredients and have a little taste test!

I might. I have come to realize that fresh peanut butter is both sweet and savory. I actually have been having fresh ground peanut butter with a slice of cheddar cheese or stilton on wasa crisp. It's slightly sweet and salty and just yummy. So the olives, mayo and PB might actually work. Chicken satay with PB sauce works.

I voted no, but really, I'll try anything once. It's the mayo that throws me off here; I can't stand the stuff.

NEVER...mayonnaise and green olives are two of the foods I hate most.

I love peanut butter though. I always liked a peanut butter and banana sandwich when I was younger.

I would actually give this a shot. I really like peanut butter and pimento olives, and I could see them complementing each other. Mayo.. not a huge fan anymore (high cholesterol). Bring it on!

Ummm...sounds interesting to say the least. The ingredients don't sound very appetizing...mayo and peanut butter don't exactly sound like a good combo, but I'm willing to try. I won't knowck it 'til I try it!

I think there's something off-putting about peanut butter and mayo, together...anyone else agree?

I HATE mayonnaise, so this definitely sounds gross to me. I'm curious now though so maybe one day when I'm bored I'll experiment with peanut butter and olives.

I'd taste it...but I know I wouldn't like it. a tiny tiny tiny little bite. I love peanut butter (LOVE LOVE LOVE) but I HATE mayo and I'm not a fan of the olives with the pimentos. I'm actually more grossed out about the mayo than the olives.

I love olives and pb - but add the mayo and smoosh them together, ick. Just not something I can touch. :/

Omg! I have never heard of anyone else making these sandwiches. My mother "discovered" them when she was pregnant with me, and she got me hooked on them as a kid. They're sweet and creamy and salty and so good.

I remember reading about this sandwich in Reichl's book - and I was grossed out then! She had an interesting food childhood, that's for sure... And I'm so scared of this sandwich!

How can anyone say that peanut butter is the food of the devils child? It is the most perfect tasting thing ever....it can go with chocolate, on top of ice cream, on crackers, with apples....ANYTHING I don't know if I would ever try more than one bit of this sandwich. I could definitely see a pregnant lady craving random crap like this!

Yum, PLEASE do the taste-test! I'm dying to know how it tastes and too afraid to try it myself. However, I have had peanut butter stuffed jalepenos, and those were good.

I'd definitely try it. I love all those ingredients separately, and I think peanut butter lends itself quite well to savory flavors.

umm i absolutely LOVE both green olives and pb....but just the thought of mayo makes me wanna throw up! ughh oil and eggs= GROSS. not to mention any nutrition it might have it waayyy outweighed by how fattening and full of cholesterol....it even LOOKS like when they bring out fat on talk shows to show how much people have lost and stuff...im about to head to my fridge and try just olives and pb. my green olives are sun dried tomato stuff, but ill report back anyways (ill just take them out).
