Get Yer Booz2Go

Something tells me that parents are not going to be happy with this one: Students in the Netherlands have developed powdered alcohol. Five classmates at Helicon Vocational Institute - about an hour's drive from Amsterdam - put the idea together as part of their final project. The product, which they're calling Booz2Go, will be available in 7-ounce packets, costing around $2 a piece. The concoction is added to water for a slightly fizzy, green lime-flavored drink containing around 3% alcohol. Oh and the best part is that they're targeting underage drinkers.

Because the alcohol is not in liquid form, we can sell it to people below 16," said project member Martyn van Nierop. [The legal drinking age there is 16.]

Uh oh, thats never good. I hope its not too easy to accidentally get drunk off this (like with Everclear since you cant taste the alcohol). The packaging even makes me think its for a fun summer drink.

It is such a low content of alcohol but still I am assuming they will only market this in Europe for young people! It seems kind of a cool idea but might be kind of gross.

powdered alcohol, how intriguing. and it does look like it would be marketable to younger kids because to me, it ressembles powdered drinks like kool-aid, which are typically a juvenile drink. and it's interesting for me since i'm 19 heh

I'm still not really understanding this. Because it has a low-alcohol content, it can be marketed and sold to the underage? How does that make sense? To me, alcohol is alcohol and underage drinking will always be lame and illegal.

What? Cool concept I guess if one can be developed with more alcohol... Smiling But targeting UNDERage drinkers, no matter what the legal age= not cool.

I love the lab coats, it makes them look like legitimate scientists who know what's good for me!

I don't think trying to hide their identities by speaking some strange language is a very good idea though, that's just bad marketing.

LaLaLaurie06 , the reason it can be sold to people who are under the lagal drinking age is that the alcohol is is powder form, not because it has a low alcohol content.

annaerkul - I'm still confused. so it's legal to sell alcohol in powder form? Why is that, do you know? I'm very curious b/c before this, I had never heard anything like that. Of course, nothing like this had been marketed before so...

I wonder how it tastes? I hope it gets regulated quickly and isn't able to be sold to underage drinkers.

Haha, awesome. I love when people come up with new, creative ways to get around the laws. I only wish this had happened in the U.S. It's always fun to see the old hens and MADD go a little crazy. The legal age here is too high, but I think 16 (the age there) is pretty reasonable.
