Are Men Overwhelmed By The Grocery Store?

Ladies, looks like you better stop sending those guys to the grocery store. Turns out they're overwhelmed.

A recent report, creatively entitled "Men in Grocery Stores," discovered that men shop inefficiently and never ask for help (I could probably insert some stereotypical male joke here, but will leave the laughs for GiggleSugar).

Unlike female shoppers, males give more thought to convenience than price and are more likely to hone in on a specific product, ignoring the rest of the aisle and "circling back" to get items missed the first time. However, if they can't find it, then they just don't need it.

Many men have difficulty finding items, forego buying rather than risk purchasing a substitute for an item on the grocery list and hesitate to ask for help if they can't find an item.

What do you folks think? Ladies, does this describe your guys? Guys, does this describe you?

Haha! I heard about this on the radio this morning. Some men really are not good at grocery shopping, and others are.

haha, i son't think my boyf is overwhelmed, but he does hone in on one name brand and doesn't look around. Like, I was buying aluminum foil, and I opted fort he off brand that was $.50. He was like, why aren'y you getting Reynolds?

Even if I take my hubbie to the store with me, he grabs things we don't need and forgets to get the stuff on his list. I blame his mom.

My boyfriend points everything and I do mean everything out. He shops like a two year old. I tend to head straight for what I need and grab things that are recognizable. He's good about steering me toward store brands that are cheaper, but then he gets distracted by the cookies.

We usually go together anyways so he's pretty good about our little routine and what we usually buy. HOWEVER, I have to agree with i heart monster, sometimes he grabs things we don't need and *swears* he's going to use it to make something... but what do you know, it's still in the cabinet/fridge.

My dh is all wonderful and then at a crucial moment he sneaks off to the cheese counter in the corner ... while i talk to either myself or the random person standing next to me.

I think it depends on the guy. My dad is who taught me how to grocery shop! My brother on the other hand could use a little help...

Ladytronic - that's funny! I usually do that to my husband. Smiling He's definitely a name brand shopper though - doesn't like generic because it "tastes different" or "isn't as good." He's usually a pretty big help for the most part, but when it comes to picking out fresh vegetables and fruits? He has no clue. Smiling

I rather enjoy my trips to the grocery store, especially in the produce section. I can spend less than my SO on the same shopping list as well because I tend to take more time at the store and find the deals.

I am guilty of "circling back" though, but that can be construed a lot of ways. I think some women would rather just get it next time rather than circle back. Though that does mean I spend a lot longer in the grocery store than others, even though I know the store as well as a stock clerk.

    And yes, I'm straight.

Pretty much describes my guy friends. They don't bother checking price tags most of the time, which definitely baffles me. Although one good thing - they always manage to finish shopping sooner than I do because they don't agonize over their food choices as I often do.

My hubby used to work at a grocery store so fortunently he's better at grocery shopping than I and always comes back with exactly what I ask for or if they don't have it something better.

    Of course they are!

One time I sent my b/f to the supermarket for some LETTUCE and he came back with a CABBAGE.

They get confused with all the different brands and products

My boyfriend often takes care of the grocery shopping by himself and does a great job. He also does a lot of the cooking!

    My fiance LOVES to shop!
Especially at big discount stores that sell in bulk.
He shops for food sooooo well that he normally comes home with too much food because the price/value was soo good he couldn't pass it up Smiling

My boyfriend always walks around the grocery store pretty aimlessly. Either that, or he just goes in and gets stuff to make sandwiches...He's a picky eater though, so I think he just doesn't care to really look around at anything else. I definitely took over the grocery shopping duties after we started living together though...and the cooking for that matter Smiling

The problem with most of the men I know is that they have no idea how to plan meals. They never think about food unless they're hungry, so they never get what they need at the grocery store. Though I do know some guys who aren't like this.

Make a list, don't get overwhelmed. I love to cook and bake, but I do hate the grocery store.

I don't know about most guys, but my dad was always the one who did the grocery shopping when I was younger and he's always been pretty good about it.
