Alton Brown Is Welch's New Spokesman

Dunkin' Donuts has Rachael Ray, T.G.I. Fridays has Guy Fieri, and Applebee's has Tyler Florence, so it's only natural for Welch's to want their very own Food Network spokesperson. They've found the perfect match in food scientist Alton Brown. Brown will appear in the new 100 percent grape juice from Concord grapes campaign. He'll appear in television, print, and online advertising. Chris Heye, vice president of marketing for Welch's, explains why Alton is the perfect fit for grape juice:

People have a growing interest in foods and beverages that deliver health benefits. Alton is the perfect partner to help us explain the science behind our Concord grapes and the health benefits they deliver to moms and their families. He has a knack for conveying these messages in a way that is both engaging and credible.

The ads will run from now until March 2009. Although it may seem like an unlikely partnership, Alton selling grape juice is no stranger to me than Rachael selling donuts. What do you think, does Alton Brown make you want to buy grape juice?

I think any food company would be thrilled to have AB as their spokesperson. They stated it perfectly when they said he has a knack for conveying the message in a way that is both engaging and credible. I also think he has a lot of integrity, so I'm much more likely to buy something he has endorsed than other celebrities. I expect the Welch's commercials will be much more interesting now!

I'm not a fan of Alton's new long-haired look. He's taking on the air of a Wylie Dufresne or creepy Law & Order SVU child-molester-suspect.

I understand an endorsement is an easy way to make good money, but I think some celebrities need to think better when choosing them. I always thought Tyler Florence was a nice cute chef but now when I hear his name I associate him with Applebees, which is a place I would never eat. Fridays is even worse, but I was never a Guy Fieri fan to begin with.

I would never give my kid Welch's Grape Juice, but at least Alton didnt go with some bad food! You would think Guy Fieri wouldn't want to be a spokesperson for a huge chain when he seems so 'passionate' about diners, drive ins and dives.

This should please my sister because she HATED those little girls who advertised for Welch's juice before. She refused to buy her favorite Welch's grape juice until those little evil knomes were removed from the advertising.

I saw one of the commercials the other night during Chuck and did a double take. I was so surprised to see Alton! The spot was informative, and made me want to drink the bottle we already had, lol.

I think it's a cool idea...but agree with other posters about the hair...it's awful.

Aww, I'm not a fan of the longer hair but he's getting a little thin on top so I guess that's his way of dealing with it. I still love him. ^_^
