Let's Dish: What Are Your Guilty Pleasure Foods?

Whenever I interview chefs, I always ask: "What's your favorite guilty pleasure food?" Of course, my definition of "guilty pleasure" is quite different from, say, FitSugar's. I don't consider it a guilty pleasure if it's high in fat or calories; that is a mere pleasure.

No, I'm talking about the food that you don't want your foodie friends to know you eat, whether it's Totino's frozen pizza rolls or "cappuccino" from 7-Eleven. Obviously, I make no secret of the fact that I'll eat pretty much anything, so now it's time for you to 'fess up. What foods do you secretly adore?

A guilty pleasure for me would be my favorite meal at Arby's--a roast beef sandwich with Arby's sauce, curly fries, and a jamocha shake! All my friends know I shun fast food, beef, and almost everything fried. But it's just so good! Every once in a while I just HAVE to have it. =]

Cream-filled chocolate donuts from Kwik Trip washed down with a big French Vanilla cappuccino made with that high-sugar powdered mix they have there. It's definitely NOT gourmet eating, but it's SO good!

Chicken McNuggets. I hate fast food, the McJob culture and the wastefulness of it all, but every so often I have to have them.

    But I'd never tell.

Again, not stuff that's bad for me (though most of this is), but stuff that I don't want my foodie friends to know I eat.
Port Wine Cheese Spread. Marshmallow fluff. Chicken McNuggets. Stouffer's Lasagna. "Crab" Rangoons.
Good to get that off my chest. Whew.

Guilty pleasure for a foodie in a Restaurant Town as intense as San Francisco? For this chick, it's gotta be the White Castle cheeseburgers that you can get in the frozen food aisle of any standard grocery store. Just dip them in mustard and you'll eat all 6 before you know it (those mini-onion bits are like flavor crystals!)

    Deudre,

I just had my first White Castle frozen cheeseburger a few months ago. I swear they put crack in those onionn bits! Addictive! But it's ketchup dunking for me.

There's this authentic mexican restaurant by my apartment that has the best Tortas I've ever had. If you've never had one or don't know what it is, it's a LOADED sandwich of either meat or chicken (my favorite is steak and sauteed onions) then avocado, a little bit of lettuce, black beans and cheese under the softest roll. Really awesome. going to that restaurant for the first time was the worst thing i could ever have done. aaaaaaand the best.

Oh boy, when I saw this and tried to think of just ONE guilty food pleasure, it was hard to narrow it down...I have a lot! I would have to say anything from Taco Bell; its so inexpensive and soooo goooood. There is nothing like leaving a bar and hitting up Taco Bell, when you are just tipsy enough to not feel guilty about what you eat Smiling

Mac and cheese, tuna noodle caserole, doritos, and SONIC with french fries. Plus Mickey Ds flurries with M&Ms, though that may be more a sweet guilty pleasure than the aforementioned.

once or twice a year, i will go get a tin of chipotles and a jar of spicy nacho cheese sauce...i will chop up the chipotles and mix 'em up with the cheese sauce and just eat it out of a bowl with a spoon.

it tastes soooooooooo good for like the first hour...then two hours later i feel gross. kind of like eating taco bell. i go to taco bell maybe once a year if i'm on a road trip and will order three bean burritos, two crunchy tacos, two enchiritos, and put a sh*t-ton of fire sauce on that mess, eat it, burp like hell for the next six hours, and vow to never eat at taco bell again. wait a year, wash, rinse, repeat.

i too am of the peanut butter-and-spoon club. =) but it's a GOOD fat, so it's OK!!

How could you go wrong with the McDonald $1 menu double cheeseburger...or the ground beef Taco Bell taco. They taste the same as they did when they cost 25 cents (or so I hear).

    McDonald's chocolate milkshake.

After basketball practice, my dad would take me through the drive threw and I would get a small shake about once a month. It was a true treat! Well, I had the guts to get one two months ago and while it was delicious, I felt A LOT of guilt. My family knows me as 'the one who eats healthy ALL the time' so I didn't want anyone to see with a Mcdonald's cup!

I was just talking to my hubby about this post and I caused him to make a totally impromptu KFC run because I got him wanting the mashed potatoes and gravy too, just from hearing me talk about it!Lol!! I will hate(but love) myself for this in about 10 minutes, when he gets back... Smiling

Ok NdHebert what is a frito pie because that sounds good!

Frito pie is a single serving of fritos corn chips with a cup of chili con carne poured over it. Add cheese, lettuce, etc. if desired. Also called a walking taco. I personally think they're hideous, but I'm not here to rain on someone else's guilty pleasures parade. After all, I have no standing (per my previous post) to cast the first stone.

There is an unbelievable Mom and Pop Italian deli near me. They have a homemade cheesecake that defies description. I need to bring this home to eat it though, because I end up licking the carton! Not pretty!

    1. spoonfuls of marshmallow fluff out of the jar! sometimes i'll scoop peanut butter out with the same spoon and mix it up Smiling
    2. candy bars. i don't usually ever eat the kind of candy that's near the check out at the grocery store (i am strictly a dark chocolate girl) - but every now and then i just need snickers, twix, peppermint patties...i always feel kinda guilty after a few bites, but it's so delicious. mmmm.
    3. the pastries at starbucks like banana bread, cinnamon coffee cake...not too guilty, but they are loaded with sugar and fat.

Ripe avocado mashed onto a whole wheat English muffin or bagel, sprinkled with a little onion salt or garlic salt with a liberal squeeze of fresh lemon juice...OR homemade chocolate chip cookies sandwiched together with Nutella and dunked in my favorite coffee. Just depends on what I'm craving or just how bad the day has been.Eye-wink
