Happy Hour: Arroyo Robles 2006 Syrah Rosé

Over the weekend I had the lovely opportunity to taste many of California's Rhone-style wines at the Rhone Rangers wine tasting. I'm not too familar with the Paso Robles wine-making region, so it was exciting to taste what they had to offer. While I enjoyed sipping both the Syrah or Grenache, I found that the Rosés better complemented the sunny Spring day.

One that stood out was the Arroyo Robles 2006 Syrah Rosé. Normally I don't love Rosé, but this wine was smooth and uncomplicated. It has a lovely, rosy pink color with a fresh fruity aroma and it tasted like Summer in a glass. At $21 a bottle, it is affordable enough to purchase now and enjoy when the weather actually warms up.

My company and I just went and visited this region on a business trip. I fell in love with Paso Robles! And yes, the wine is to die for. Also try Castoro Cellar, Peachy Canyon Winery, Edna Valley, and Silver Horse if you want some good wines. We'll be blogging all about it soon!

What's so refreshing about Paso Robles is the genuine kindness of the community there. You won't find any snobs here! I think it's a great option for those who are just beginning to be interested in wine and don't want to feel intimidated.

I forgot to mention how beautiful Paso Robles and the surrounding cities are. I recommend that anyone planning a visit be sure to take a leisurely drive down the country roads of Templeton, as well.

I live in Paso, and we have some of the greatest wines in the world, IMHO. (Please note: I also have a Master's Degree in this area.)

Please don't tell too many people though! Paso is so quaint and quiet, and I wouldn't want it spoiled with TOO many tourists.

Partysugar, you HAVE to take a trip and do some wine tasting in that area. There are some great wineries, especially just beyond SLO. Edna Valley (like onion waffle mentioned) is my fave. One of my favorite getaways is staying in Pismo Beach, and spending a day tracking along all the wineries in the area.

We enjoyed this wine as part of a lovely evening with great food & wine while cruising Morro Bay in a beautiful yacht with fun people!
The AR Syrah rose was paired with a Spinach & Fig Fritter with Braised Baby Leeks & Syrah Rose Reduction... WOW! SYRAH ROSE SEDUCTION!
